The Monkees - Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Mike Nesmith - were a first.  The first made-for-TV band, the first TV show depicting long-haired youth living on their own without adult supervision, the first band to  outsell both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined.  The first band to wrest control of their musical careers from their corporate bosses, and the first to successfully morph from a mere imaginary pop group into a legitimate musical act, who toured and recorded fun, challenging, genre-bending music that spanned folk, rock, pop, Broadway and country.  Yet, despite their meteoric rise to fame, The Monkees remained genuinely funny individuals, who, despite their personal and musical differences, managed to forge a remarkable catalog of music and a long-running career as a group.  I first heard them when I was a child - and their late-Sixties television show was in reruns - their TV show was wild - funny and unpredictable, its templet being The Beatles A Hard Days Night - but infused with the own unique personalities and their equally unique music.  I began this site as an attempt to catalog and review their remarkable output - which continues to expand, even today.  Although just a fan site - I've put a LOT of time and effort into my listings and reviews.  I hope, if  you're as big a fan as I am, that you'll find some new, and interesting things here to entertain you!
